I spent a glorious hot Summer week in Suffolk and managed to read The Great Godden, the latest young adult novel by Meg Rosoff.
This is a seductive and alluring coming of age story captured in effortless prose.
The agony and humiliation of first love set against the backdrop of the breezy English coast is a delicious treat.
Having an unnamed narrator and an unnamed setting might seem unsettling but it does little to detract from the intensity of the writing. If your young adult reader has not tried Rosoff before this slim novel is worth trying.
